Landslide Monitoring Systems

Over the years, landslides have caused extensive loss of life and millions of dollars in property damage. Some landslides occur as a result of natural disasters and are thus difficult to predict or prevent. However, many locations that are prone to landslides can be monitored to track the movement of an existing landslide or predict and possibly prevent a future one.

Sensors, including extensometers, in-place inclinometers, tiltmeters, pressure transducers and rain gauges, can provide valuable data related to landslides. In addition, currently available technology can provide cost effective remote video monitoring using battery powered cameras. Using various types of telemetry, this video and sensor data can be conveniently transmitted to your desktop PC.
